When you think of a crib that is standard size you think that's all you'll get and no extra frills that come with it. That may be but it is still the least expensive of all the different types of cribs that are on the market.

Your basic standard size crib is made two different ways. Either one of the rails on the crib can be slid down or both of the rails on the crib can be slid down for easier access to your child.

If you don't mind spending the money you'll be able to purchase a nicer crib that both side rails slide down making it more convenient to get to your baby.

Convertible can be inverted into a day bed or a kid's full size bed. Convertible beds are definitely more expensive than a standard sized crib but your also getting a bed with it as well.

Lastly there is a four poster bed called a canopy bed or crib. This type of bed holds up a metal frame in which fabric can be hung over it. Cribs must be registered with their manufacturer before being sold to the public. If the crib has been recalled or there is a safety issue with it having the registration from the manufacturer will help you with getting direct contact with the maker. If you have misplaced your registration card with the cribs manufacturer check for any phone numbers or addresses on the crib itself or you might want to try to seek it out on the internet with google. Also calling directory assistance might be of some help.

Check to see if the crib your interested in has a JPMA sticker-manufacturer's approval before buying it. This means that the company that has made the crib has given the thumbs up on the safety inspection.

An important point to remember when looking to buy an older or used crib is to check to see if it has been recalled before your child uses it. When purchasing anything for your little one buying it (new) rather than (used) is a safer option. New products carry the best safety features today.

Just because the crib is cheeper doesn't mean you should buy it. Get some background on it's previous use first before writing out the check.
