So what do you do when you fill the baby's spoon up with medicine and they won't open their little mouth to take it? Talk about frustrating! Could it be the smell? It does get frustrating knowing your child will not take their medicine and they have to take it to get better.
This is when you wish you had three hands just so you can get your baby to open their mouth without dumping all the medicine on the floor. Talk about maddening.
Thank goodness there is another option. Now you can visit your local pharmacy and ask them for a medical syringe. No need to worry it won't be injected.
To make your baby feel more at ease during this process hold them in a familiar feeding position. Fill up the syringe and gently squirt their medication into the side of their mouth and not directly to the back of the throat otherwise they could choke.
When your child is done taking their medication offer them some juice or a little snack to get that terrible taste out of their mouth.
Also, if your baby is required to take a pill instead of liquid medication you can crush or cut up the pill-if it's not in capsule form-and mix it in with their cereal or whatever they are eating or drinking. This way it will be much easier for the child to get the medicine down their throat.
To keep your child away from medications always place them out of touch.
It can be stressful attempting to successfully give your baby medicine but try the suggestions above and I'm sure it will work out for you.
