To some older siblings a new baby can seem like a nightmare causing them to act out. Many times the older child feels jealous and less loved since the new baby gets all the attention.

Here are some ideas to make the new baby's arrival easier on the family.

You will need to explain that since your child is older than the baby he/she will need to help mommy in raising their little brother/sister. Children love it when you include them on events such as this.

If your child loves to help you have them get the baby a diaper, a bottle or are even have them pick out something for the little one to wear.

Have big brother/sister help you read the baby a story or even sing a few songs to help them fall asleep. So the older child doesn't feel left out cuddle or rock them at the same time.

Always take time everyday to spend some more time each child separately. Have your children put their artwork on the refrigerator and let them know how proud you are of them.

For your older siblings sake limit the amount of visitors over to see the new baby that way we'll be less jealousy between siblings.

Just remember to include the older sibling and let him/her know you are proud of them, and that they are special, and you love them.

Best of luck with the new addition and all the changes that go with it. By just hugging or kissing your children shows them that they are special and loved.
